Nyssa suffers from Degenerative Disc Disease, and is unable to use her back legs. She first
became partially paralyzed in October, 1996. This determined little dachsund gets around using her version (in her
own words) of a seal walk and a custom made wheelchair cart. She leads a fully active lifestyle, chasing squirrels
and chameleons. Nothing is going to hold Nyssa back!
An important note from Nyssa's mom Cyndi:
Most of today's veterinarians do not seem knowledgeable about crippled pets, and don't always explain things well. When
the injury first occurs, there is a lot of pain, but medication it IS manageable until the body heals, and then there is
no more pain! This is crucial information to remember. You do NOT have to euthanize your pet because you think the pain
will never end. It DOES end, and they will go back to having a wonderful life with you.
Please take a moment to visit Nyssa's page and find out more
about her condition, how her mom Cyndi learned to help Nyssa lead a normal life, and the importance of a support system
of people who have gone through what you and your pet are going through. Read Nyssa's diary, and find out about she went
through her major health scare, what her parents learned, and what food supplements Nyssa is being given every day to
help her maintain her high quality lifestyle.
Also, please visit Nyssa's Wheels, to see some pictures of Nyssa in
her wheels", and read her story about she learned to love them. She even gives tips on how to get extra treats in the
process! :-)
