Cyrus was only six months old when his previous owners moved, taking his sister, but leaving him behind to fend for himself.

Thankfully, a neighbour took him in, and he was brought into the Abbey Cat Adoption program. It was while he was being fostered in the store where we buy our cat food that I first met Cyrus. What I'm going to say next may sound strange, but if you believe in fate, you will understand.

Two weeks after we lost our Vinnie to liver shutdown, I went to get cat food. When I walked into the store, this kitten was playing with one of the customers. He stopped playing, jumped onto the stores raw food freezer, put his paws on my shoulders, and started grooming my hair. I was in love!

I went home and told my husband about him, and insisted he just had to meet this loving boy. Having just lost our Vinnie, the house seemed empty, even though we had other cats. When my husband saw the bond that had already developed, he didn’t resist when I mentioned bringing Cyrus into our ever-growing cat family. So what started out being a simple pet food purchase, ended up in the adoption of a sweet 6 month old kitten.

For anyone who believes (as I do) that our dearly departed furbabies lead us to another when the time is right, this is a classic tale. I hadn’t been to pick up food for almost a month, and as it turned out, Cyrus had been there for that length of time. He was supposed to have been adopted, but the person who was going to adopt him couldn’t, which is why he was still there on the day of my visit. I feel in my heart that our adopting Cyrus was meant to be, or he would have been adopted, and I never would have met him. When we adopted him, we decided to keep the name Abbey Cats had given him - Cyrus. The Vincenzo is in remembrance of Vinnie, and the Karma was added as it fully believe it was karma that was responsible for being where I was at the right time.

Since joining our family, Cyrus has proved to be a mommy’s boy through and through. He loves nothing better than to climb onto my lap and put both his paws around my neck and give me hugs. Everyone who visits our home comments on how friendly and social Cyrus is.
