Sweetie

Sweetie is a very pretty grey and white cat who has been with us since 1991. She had been abandoned at an apartment complex when her owners moved and left her to fend for herself. As she is a fairly independent little girl, she managed to do just that for a while. However, as she had not been fixed, she soon got pregnant and gave birth to four kittens. Life "on the road" is hard enough on your own, without having babies to take care of! As she got thinner and thinner, the property manager took pity on her and took her home. Unfortunately, Sweetie wouldn't tolerate the lady's other cats and spent all of her time living in the closet with her kittens. Once the kittens were placed, Sweetie came to live with us. It was decided that she would be far happier being able to come and go as she pleased so that she could keep her distance from other felines! We had planned on keeping her inside for a couple of weeks until she became acclimatized to her surroundings. Sweetie, independent as always, decided that she didn't much care for that! She clawed out the screen from the window and disappeared. When we realized what had happened we were in a panic looking for her. We didn't have to look too far! She was stretched out on the wood deck, sunning herself, totally unconcerned about the furor she had caused! Sweetie always lives life on her own terms. In the words of Rudyard Kipling, "She is the cat who walks by herself" - and we love her for it!
