A Tribute To Frisky

? - October 23, 2000

This page is dedicated to a little black cat called Frisky.

While at the vet's meeting a kitty who was looking for a new home, I noticed a little black cat hooked up to an IV, and of course, being the cat lover that I am, asked what was wrong with him. I was told that his name was Frisky and that his family had gone away on vacation, and left him at the vet's for boarding. The very same day, he became very ill and couldn't seem to keep any food or water down. Upon examination by the vet, it became apparent that Frisky was in renal failure, and would soon be on his way to the Rainbow Bridge. Frisky was put on IV, in an effort to keep him alive till his owners returned. Although it was not likely poor Frisky would survive till the return of his owners, the vet had no choice but to try. You see, Frisky's owners had either not bothered, or not cared enough to leave a number where they could be reached in an emergency.

I went over, and noticed that his eyes were glazed and his pupils were dilated. His little tongue was hanging out and had turned purple. While stroking him gently, I told him what a good and brave boy he was. Even though he was lying on a heating pad and covered with towels, he was so cold! I knew that by morning he would be gone, and my heart ached for him. I wanted to stay and comfort him in his final hours, but not being a member of the staff, they wouldn't allow it. When it was time to leave, I kissed his little head and told him I loved him; then left in tears.

I called the next day, and sure enough, poor little Frisky had made his journey to the Rainbow Bridge sometime during the night. I will never forget Frisky, and although I had just met him, he took a little piece of my heart with him when he left.

As I remember Frisky, I would ask all of you who go away on vacation and board your pets to please - remember Frisky, and LEAVE A PHONE NUMBER WHERE YOU CAN BE REACHED IN AN EMERGENCY. It tears me apart when I think of him, and how he was made to suffer needlessly just because his owners hadn't left an emergency phone number.
