Animal Trackers

Registered Charity No. 0989400-54

Animal Trackers, in operation since 1992, is an all-volunteer, NO-KILL animal shelter devoted to the rescue and shelter of lost, abandoned, orphaned and injured animals. Animals from all over Ontario are protected in our unique, residential, cageless facility with 24-hour on-premises care. All animals remain in our care until such time as they are adopted. Legacies are also accepted to care for your pets for life. Through our networking, we have been able to reunite thousands of pets with their families.

The world of animals "in the wild" has often been found in our various jungles, forests, zoos. Today, this world also includes our countryside settings and even our rural streets. While certain species are rapidly becoming extinct, the more domesticated ones are causing an environmental imbalance due to severe and escalating overpopulation and disease.

Lost/abandoned canines must revert to the "wild", forming packs for survival. This creates more opportunity for the transmission of rabies and other diseases from animals to humans. Cats may also acquire and transmit several common diseases such as ringworm, tapeworm, salmonella, and various fungal, bacterial and viral infections. Their ever-increasing number also lends more interaction with rabid animals and a major decrease in small wildlife creatures.

Through our subsidy, we have assisted thousands of families spaying/neutering their pets, eliminating hundreds of thousands of unwanted litters. Through our feline rescues alone, together with our spay/neuter program, we have prevented the unwanted births in excess of 400 million cats/kittens. We also assist families who must relocate their pets into new homes for varying reasons.

We provide "Responsible Pet Ownership" presentations at various public and elementary schools. Topics discussed are:

- importance of spaying/neutering pets

- safety with a strange dog

- pet microchip ID

- rabies safety measures

- how to handle situations with injured animals

- how to bottle-feed kittens/puppies

Presentations are based upon age/grade level, and are followed by a question/answer period.

Weekly pet visits to seniors and Alzheimer's patients are also provided.

As well, generously donated pet food is shared with seniors, families on fixed incomes, foster homes, other animal shelters and with caring individuals feeding our feral colonies. We sponsor and assist colonies across Ontario.
